Rodger and Raylee McClelland are the definition of “meant to be”. The first time we all met up together was on a rainy day in Wichita. We met at Panera and I asked them my basic questions about the wedding, the details, and how they met. They’re like magnets, no matter what, they’re drawn together.
I went to college with Roger’s sister, and I’d been following (Instagram stalking) Raylee since about 2013. I watched their relationship grow and unfold on Instagram and Facebook, and meeting them was like putting all the pieces together.
The more they talked, I could literally see the sparks between them flying. When I left, I was even more excited to capture their wedding.
I hired an AMAZING second shooter, Lucy Maybee, from Wichita. We met at a workshop, and I swore she was my age! She’s still in high school, but with her talent, maturity, and super fun personality, I knew she’d rock this wedding with me.
We met up on the scorching hot day in May, and we were in for a real treat with this wedding. The decorations, the venue, the dresses and suits… it was all like living in a rustic, romantic, fairytale. Lucy tackled the boys (and deserves bonus points for that 😉 ) while I swooned over the girls. I also kept eyeing the cake and cupcakes.. can you blame me?! We got everything ready and the ceremony began.
Rodger’s first look at Raylee says it all. The love and magic shared between them in that moment is every person’s dream. They said their vows, exchanged rings, and had their first kiss as a married couple! Lucy and I had the portraits down and on lock, we had to be quick because we went outside and didn’t want everyone to melt!
Lucy parted ways and I snuck Rodger and Raylee off to the trails by the park in Iola. I thought this spot would be gorgeous with the peeking sunlight through the full, bright green trees. Not to toot my own horn, but I was totally right. Rodger and Raylee popped against the green trees on the trail.
We laughed, they snuggled, and we all sweated a lot. But, I’m happy to say we beat the heat, got some stunning portraits, and headed back to party!!
Ok this might be one of my favorite wedding moments ever. Raylee pulled me aside during the reception and told me to be ready for her bouquet toss because her brother was proposing! I held in my squeals of excitement, and got ready. She counted down and walked her bouquet over to her brother’s girlfriend. He followed her over and got on one knee. Yes, there were many tears shed and I’m happy to announce that SHE SAID YES!!!! What a moment!!
This day ended with dancing, laughing, and yes, I got a cupcake (the best cupcake ever by the way). So, I’ll wrap this up and say Rodger and Raylee: your day was so special and I can’t thank you enough for asking me to capture it for you. Thanks for being patient with me during my moment of stress when I needed a new second shooter. You two are perfect and amazing for each other and I hope your future is full of love, laughs, and lots of doggie kisses and cuddles shared together.
