So, something about me is, I like to meet all my clients before I shoot them. I like to hear them talk about their lives, what they’re interested in, and “feel out” their personality. I also do this so they know me! I try to be as transparent as possible online, so what you see is what you get. But, I’m not exactly how I come across on social media. You can’t hear my annoying scream-laugh when I think something is super funny. You can’t sit in my car with me and watch me try to navigate to a location. You can’t watch my sweat my buns off in this heat and see me be overly dramatic and offer you candy and drinks after your session.. until you do!
When Makenzie agreed to be my rep., my beautiful tropical fish (points if you get the Parks & Rec. reference) makeup artist had a rare opening just a few days away. I had to snag it, since Makenzie was free and down for it, so I didn’t get to meet her in person before her makeup appointment!!!!!!!! (aka, I didn’t get to see what car she drove, so I sat in my car in the parking lot awkwardly guessing if the cars were hers for a long period of time haha!)
So I met her at the appointment. And even though I didn’t get to talk to her in person before then, I did get to stare at her face for about an hour while Lanae worked, like that’s totally not creepy at all right? But I can’t help it, I love watching Lanae do her thing. I seriously could just sit with her all day, not saying a word, and watch her do makeup.
After her appointment, Makenzie followed me to Botanica where the real fun began! Fun tip: it costs $25 if you want to take pictures there. I was prepared for like $7, so future warning to you togs. in Wichita, bring $25, not $7. The gardens are so overwhelming, I still haven’t been through all of them. We decided to start in the butterfly house thing because I actually knew where that was, and had visions of butterflies landing so gracefully on Makenzie’s shoulder, or cheek. Yeah those dreams were crushed real quick. Butterflies don’t just gravitate towards you, to my surprise. Actually they seem to avoid you at all costs. So, they were blurry blobs in some pictures, and I can’t remember if you can even see them in those shots I got. It was still gorgeous in their little house place anyways, so we had fun!
We walked around, and saw some gorgeous red flowers we really loved! Only problem was, they were by this pond, and there was no walking path to get down there. Me being a good citizen, I didn’t want to just run around like I owned the place, so we stuck with the paths and gardens given to us. 🙂
After I don’t even know how long, we were both hot and worn out from walking so much (Makenzie was in heels! Poor thing!). I got to know Makenzie during our shoot, and it was like we’d known each other the whole time. I love those people you meet and connect with and it’s like the easiest conversations, no awkwardness, just like two old friends. Makenzie has the sweetest personality. She’s super close with her dad, and it reminded me of how close I was with my dad before he passed. She has a love for her pets, and sadly as I blog this, her dog has just passed away a few days ago. My heart was so sad to hear that news, knowing how much her pets mean to her. So please take a second and give her healing vibes and prayers if you’re into that, because losing a dog is losing family.
Makenzie’s pictures were done and edited in like a day. I was in LOVE with every shot I took, she’s a natural in front of the camera. I’m so glad I have such a good rep. that I can connect with and is just to naturally talented. I can’t wait to see what her fall session holds for us!
